Gypsy Tea Room Wedding

Before arriving at the Gypsy Tea Room for the wedding, our day started out in Downtown St. John’s at a small barber shop with big personality! There was a line up outside before Fogtown opened and those few minutes with Ryan and his groomsmen were some of my favourites from the day! They were super relaxed, laughing and joking and really just looking forward to everything the day was going to bring them. When the shop opened, Ryan got a super close hot shave and a trim so he’d look his finest for his bride!

Leigh and her girls spent the morning at Uptown Hair Design where she had started her career before moving out of the province to Edmonton. It was a little something extra special for her to be with the girls she used to work with that morning. She’d talk about future plans with her old coworkers, tell them about her dreams and goals between clients and on breaks. They were so happy she chose to come back where it all started for her on her wedding day!

The Ceremony

The ceremony was held at the Gypsy Tea Room, where all their friends and family gathered and crowded around to watch Ryan twist his hands while he waited for Leigh and her dad to come down the steps. After each bridesmaid entered, the hand twisting got a little more serious! When she finally did come around the corner, his eyes just lit up! Of course there were some wet eyes and emotional looks between the two of them too. The ceremony was beautiful with Ryan’s Aunt doing a reading and both Moms lighting their unity candles. Ryan and Leigh took part in a wine box ceremony as well, where they each wrote a letter to the other and locked it in a box with their favourite wine to be opened at a later date. The cutest moment of the ceremony, and one that got a few laughs, was right after the first kiss when Leigh did a little boogie! She was soooooo happy!!

We had decided since their engagement session had a more rustic theme (you can see it here!) that we’d focus on the city of St. John’s for their wedding photos. We headed around to all the great tourist spots for photos. Both Leigh and Ryan made it known that it was super important to them to be able to see Newfoundland in their photos. We made that happen! We went to The Gut at Quidi Vidi, Cuckold’s Cove, Jellybean Row, Signal Hill, Fort Amherst, George Street….you name it, we most likely went there!!

The reception was also held at the Gypsy Tea Room, but in a different space. The wine cellar! The couple entered to cheers and whistles and was immediately toasted before starting their first dance. During the traditional father daughter dance there were some tears, it was so sweet. During their thank you speech Leigh singled out her younger cousin Katie, still in school, and thanked her for making their wedding cake. After thanking everyone for making the trip all the way across the country the party got started! Congratulations Ryan and Leigh!! I hope you’ll forever be #happilyeverstang!
