Matt and Julia were married on the Scheffelmaier farm on the first Saturday in October. It was cold. And windy. And the wedding ceremony was supposed to take place outside! As a farm family, the Scheffelmaier’s are used to going with the flow, doing what needs to be done. This day was no exception. After the talented hair and makeup artists were finished with them, Julia and her bridesmaids layered long underwear underneath their dresses.  She and Matt decided to have a first look in the back field before the ceremony and it was the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen! From the moment Julia came around the bale, Matt could’t take his eyes off of her! The wedding party joined the couple then for some fun portraits!

As guests arrived at the farm, they were invited to take a blanket to the ceremony site. They crossed a bridge and landed on a private island set up with the most beautiful floral arrangements lining the aisle. Square hay bales were set up for guests to witness the most important moment of Matt and Julia’s new life together. As the bridesmaids made their way up the aisle, pulling wagons of nieces and nephews, you could see Matt start to get excited. As Julia and her father came in to view his eyes filled and he smiled the biggest smile! Surrounded by their loved ones and Julia’s beloved horses, they promised to love each other. In a rope binding ceremony they tied the strongest knot together. After sealing the ceremony with a kiss, they came back down the aisle as husband and wife in a shower of grain instead of confetti!

When the reception tent opened, guests were treated to an incredible meal and some of the most heartfelt toasts and speeches they’ve ever heard. Matt’s siblings and cousins told stories that made everyone laugh. Julia’s sisters were so genuine and comical. Her grandmother spoke of the little girl she knew so well who had grown into a beautiful young woman. As far as speeches go, these took the cake!

The bride and groom also spoke and thanked their guests for braving the cold. They spoke about each of their parents and families before they surprised everyone by getting out their instruments and singing a song they had adapted for the occasion! Talk about a talented pair!

The music didn’t end there, the bride and groom had a romantic first dance and followed that up with dancing with their parents. The evening continued into the wee hours! This group sure knows how to have a good time!
