Castor lifestyle session {Ian, Dana and Cohen of RedTail Farms} Sneak Peek

Posted in: Lifestyle

RedTail Farms is a family run farm here in East Central Alberta that provides delicious grass fed beef, some of the best pork you’ll ever find, and free range chickens. Ian, Dana and their wee one Cohen tend the land and the animals just like Ian’s parents used to, tradition is a big deal to them. RedTail Farms is 3 generations, looking 7 generations forward. Preserving the legacy that the Griebel family has built is one of the most important things to them. Teaching their children that how you treat the land and how you choose to raise animals; by what you feed them, how you speak to them, how they’re processed to enter the food chain is important. Everything that Ian and Dana are doing now will prepare their children, their grandchildren and all those generations to come, to have a lasting and sustainable future in agriculture.

They invited me out to their farm to take some lifestyle photos of them and their livestock. I’m pretty comfortable around cows, we have our own herd, but it was awesome to hear how they work with theirs. Cohen was all smiles around the cows in the pasture! Kids love LOVE to hang on the farm! The pigs were also pretty fantastic. I’ve haven’t spent much time around pigs, I was surprised by the size of them! And the sounds. Not an ‘oink’ like Old MacDonald says, but more like a snuffle-snuffle. I have to say the chickens were my favourite. I just think they’re the cutest. I shamelessly chased them for a little bit after taking their picture too.  I would have taken one home 😉
