Let me first start off with saying how incredibly excited I am to show you this Fall engagement session, to introduce you to Brett and Jenna and share their story with you! SO EXCITED!!
Jenna and Brett grew up in towns next to each other and started dating in high school! They’ve been dating now for over 10 years! When I think of them, it’s a feeling of coming home, of comfort. They’re so incredibly comfortable with each other, with themselves and with other people. They’re so genuine!
After living together in Calgary, they decided they needed more than just the hustle and bustle of the city. They wanted to experience a bit more of North America, in a simpler way. Jenna searched and found a beautiful orange Volkswagen Westfalia named Tiger Lily and the adventure was on!! Together, they customized their new ride and planned to set out on the road less travelled.
Tradition and family are very important to this couple. So much so that Brett talked to Jenna’s parents about proposing and during that conversation, her mom asked if he’d already purchased a ring. She got out Jenna’s grandmother’s engagement ring and Brett just knew it would be perfect. His simple loving girl would love the family connection and simplicity of this ring.
Getting ready to go on their trip of a lifetime took a more stressful turn after that! Jenna was ruthlessly purging their apartment, packing, donating items….all the while Brett was so worried that she would find the ring’s hiding place! Finally the departure day came! All the planning, packing and preparing was finally finished and they were on their way. After waving goodbye to Jenna’s parents, Tiger Lily headed down the road.
Brett stopped before turing onto the highway telling Jenna he had forgotten to check the oil. He jumped out and headed around the back of the van. Jenna grabbed the oil rag and headed back there to give him a hand and as she came around the corner saw Brett down on one knee. She was so confused, he hadn’t opened the engine compartment. Then she noticed he was holding something…a ring!! The happy tears came and of course she answered with a yes! They headed back to the yard to tell their families the good news!!
After a quick celebration, they hoped back in the van to continue their adventure!
You can read more about their 5 month long travels on their blog, Travels of Tiger Lily here!
I know your families are so excited to see what the future holds for you both! I can’t wait to celebrate with you both as you become husband and wife next August!!
