McKenzie Trails Engagement

When Kayla emailed me about shooting her engagement session and she mentioned her fiancé’s name I let out a little whoop of joy! Her fiancé Shae was the best man from Mel and Robbie’s wedding that I had shot earlier this summer! We had even talked about him proposing at that wedding! This was meant to be you guys!

We met at McKenzie Trails in Red Deer on Thanksgiving Sunday. I have to say right off the get go, McKenzie Trails in the Fall is gorgeous!! The trees and the overgrown brush backdrop really suited this outdoorsy couple that got engaged while hiking around in Jasper! While we were shooting their engagement photos and getting to know each other a little better they shared with me that they were high school sweethearts! Together ever since a school trip where Kayla ended up falling asleep and her head fell onto Shae’s shoulder on the bus. How sweet! I’m pretty jealous of that kind of romantic story…I met my husband at a Halloween party where we were the only ones NOT dressed up…we joke that we knew what we were getting in to….Ha. We’re lame, sorry!

The sweetness doesn’t end there. Shae proposed to Kayla with a very special ring. It was his mothers. He’s been holding on to it since he lost her. He knew at some point it would belong to Kayla, he just had to find the right time. They were hiking in Jasper, like I said and really, the rest is history. They’re the perfect compliment to each other and will be getting married next year!!
