Goode Family Photos in Fish Creek Park

Fish Creek Park in Calgary is a great place for family photos! There’s a ton of different types of settings, trees, buildings, the creek, paths. It was the perfect place to take this special family for their updated family photos. We had a great time. I know I day that on nearly every single blog post, but this time, I mean it even more. This is my sister and her family! My beautiful nieces were hilarious and stubborn and beautiful and fun! My sister Stacey and her husband Jason cracked jokes and rolled with the girls, stress free, it was great fun!

Their Story

Stacey and Jason’s wedding was actually my very first wedding as a photographer! Before I even knew I wanted to be a photographer even! They got married in 2010, in Jason’s sister Beckie’s backyard. Fast forward a few years and little miss Harlie-Rae was born! Right from the start this one was a firecracker! She’s super sweet, but let me tell you, she knows her own mind! Everything was going along, like you’d expect, and then surprise! Stacey and Jason announce she’s expecting! We were all so excited! Harlie needed someone else to torment play with!

The Worst Day

Then the unthinkable happened. Stacey was diagnosed with cancer. Hodgkins lymphoma. I can’t imagine what it must be like for anyone to sit at a doctor’s office and listen to news like this. I really can’t. But to hear this, while being pregnant?? Oh my goodness. Strength, that’s one word that comes to my mind when I think back to this day. She held it together for her husband, for her daughter, for all of us. She went to appointment after appointment, undergoing scans, bloodwork, exams….it was never-ending. Even the scheduling, the leaves from work, the childcare for Harlie-Rae, she handled it all. Then she started chemo. And got tired. And got sick… and lost a lot of her hair…WHILE CARRYING A BABY. I’ll say it again….strength. While I sit here writing this, tears running down my cheeks, reliving it all in my head, I really just keep thinking how strong she and Jason were through everything. Couples fight, bicker, or argue on a bad day, but the worst day? On the worst days, they pull it together and all you see is strength and love.

Becca Alexis was born on June 10, 2014, just over 6 lbs of beautiful healthy squishiness. All that time Stacey carried her while undergoing chemo, we were all so worried about her. But she was perfect. She IS perfect. This little doll sure gave me a run for my money during photos! At 2 years old now, she’s starting to talk quite a bit, loves her big sister to bits, doesn’t sit still for a second and loves ice cream!

As for my sister, she’s still going to appointments every few months, but she’s great! She and her family are happy and healthy!

So, while all you might see when you scroll through this post is some pretty family photos, I see everything my family could have lost. Strength, love and joy, all wrapped up in these pretty family photos ❤️
